It was somewhat apparent that the 250,000-or-so cables released by WikiLeaks could make the lives of many rather inconvenient. However, it seems that the information goes much further than just diplomatic negotiations. A new document now shows how Intel was able to get a waiver from the Russian government to import software that usually could not have been imported. If we read this right, then the information shown could be called bullying at best and blackmailing at worst. Some may call it business, though. Intel apparently received approval to import 1000 encrypted platforms that would be used for the development of software. Intel, which was represented back then by CEO Craig Barrett, made it clear that it needed the hardware and software in the country and was able to leverage its intelligence, if you will, knowing that Russia wanted to become a `knowledge-based economy.` Intel highlighted that it was employing more than 1000 Russian engineers and if it was not able to import those platforms, it would have to lay off over 200 engineers and R&D work would be moved to India or China. Apparently, the negotiations involved not only Barrett, but also American Chamber of Commerce President Andrew Somers on the American side, as well as Russian President Medvedev.`
`Summary: Look for lawsuits filed in Europe from AMD and others now that the EU has found Intel was very, very bad.
By Richard Koman for ZDNet Government | May 18, 2009 - 06:57 GMT (23:57 PDT)
Intel`s .44 billion fine imposed by the EU is probably just the beginning of Intel`s European problems. Look for AMD to deliver a civil lawsuit now that the EU decision is in, PC World says. The article quotes British antitrust lawyer Alan Davis, PC World says:
This will open the floodgates for competitors to sue. There was a complainant in this case, AMD, and without question they and other competitors will pursue a case for damages. The fine goes to the European Commission`s coffers, not to the competitors who suffered damage to their businesses because of Intel`s anti-competitive practices. What is likely to happen is that action will be started and a massive settlement will be made.
And it won`t be just AMD and other chipmakers. The OEMs themselves were injured by Intel. Even if they got cheaper prices in the short run, by locking out AMD they lost the benefits of a competitive marketplace. Now AMD is no longer a serious player and Intel can name its price. So, why shouldn`t IBM, Dell and HP sue, as well?
And don`t forget class actions on behalf of consumers.
As to the details of what the suit would look like, one needs only peruse the lawsuit AMD filed against Intel in 2005. `
`With Haswell, the ULV part with the Crystallwell memory costs more to make, but not a huge amount more. Think or less for the DRAM, and maybe double that tally for construction losses. For this, Intel is trying to charge OEMs -60 on a CPU that already breaks the bank at 5 or so. Several OEMs contacted SemiAccurate recently to complain about Intel’s pricing, one calling it, “Absurd”, and that was the nice one.
Why do they think they can charge this much money? Marketing. Intel is going to make yet another moronic brand for the ULV/Ultrabook versions of Haswell, and make you pay for it.`

PRAVDA ZA INTEL !!!!! Ovo je prljava kampanja AMD garantovano..... BUAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA
AMD 965 X4 3.8 Ghz , Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-890GPA-UD3H, 2 x 2 GB DDR3 1800Mhz Silicon X Power, HD 6870 Sapphire, LC Power Arkangel 850 W ,Cooler Master HAF 912+, Samsung SyncMaster P2470, Altec Lansing VS3151R, LOGITECH G400,
`After years of fighting a he said, she said battle, Intel has agreed to pay AMD .25 billion dollars to settle any and all allegations. This shot in the pocket book will hopefully help AMD to get back on their feet. But I believe there is more to this settlement and it is something that I have believed for years.
IMHO AMD makes a processor that is equal to or better than what Intel can produce. I have personally used AMD products since about 1997.Fact is all five computers in my home all use AMD processors. I purposely buy only AMD because I have always believed two things. One, is that if it wasn’t for AMD, I am sure we would be paying higher prices for Intel only chips. Two, I believe that Intel did blackmail OEM’s into using their chips at the expense of AMD.
The current settlement also includes:
AMD and Intel both get patent rights in a cross-licensing pact. Intel will give up any patent claims against AMD. Intel will agree to adhere to business practice provisions. And AMD drops all pending litigation against Intel.
There are some additional stipulations included in the article from ZD net that you can read at the source link below.
I would hope that all of you would consider buying an AMD powered computer when buying your next system. Though the settlement will help the company survive, our support is also needed in order to keep Intel honest.`
